THR – The story so far…..

The story so far……

I thought I would make our first blog about THR, where we are at, how we got here and where we are going.

For those of you that don’t know we are independent recruiters specialising in two key sectors.

About ten years ago, after graduating from University and feeling fed up in my current job (an international advertising company) I had the urge to find a new role; something highly challenging and interesting. I thought about working for a house builder as I was interested in this area but in no way qualified. I got on the phone and started to contact recruitment companies. By chance I contacted a local recruiter – Dave Smith, to see whether he could help. As it happened he was looking for someone to join him and quite coincidentally, to start an architecture desk. It also turned out he also knew my brother in law and friends, small world…meant to be? I joined him and developed the architecture division. Things were going great until six years on and lots of hard work later the recession had other ideas for us.

Long story short I started to work for myself under the name “Taylor Herrick Recruitment”. I was fortunate enough to keep going through the bad times by maintaining business with a few clients who I had built great relationships with. It was at this time that I was also introduced to the world of ‘Welfare to Work’. Someone who had previously interviewed me for a recruitment role had seen something promising and contacted me to deliver a contract for them; job search support for professionals. Thoroughly enjoyed this as it meant that I got to get involved in the good side of recruitment, supporting unemployed professionals in achieving their career goals.  This led to me building some great contacts within employability and has enabled me to develop a recruitment division in this sector.

Over the past ten years I have worked hard to build a network of trusted contacts within architecture and now that those green shoots are coming through again I hope they will be happy to continue working with us as their own businesses grow and career aspirations develop.

2012 is a big year for us, we have moved offices and are investing in some exceptional people to join us and help us expand. Recruitment is our core business as we are passionate about people. However, we truly believe that this ties in well with employability and the local community so we fully intend to keep delivering employment support. Its exciting being able to try and grow a business doing something you believe in and enjoy. Its also hard work, stressful and challenging. That, along with success, is what drives us.
